Getting Started

Options for Getting Started

Which options are most sensible depends mostly on whether your child is ahead, keeping up, or behind.  You can evaluate your child yourself with our free test.  Use it later on for monitoring your child’s progress while we tutor.  (Download now.)  Or, we’ll evaluate your child for you.  That’s also free.   If that’s not appealing, you can watch a free online demonstration.  You don’t need reading insurance if your child is way ahead.  You need tutoring if your child is way behind.  Click an icon above for help with your decisions.

Free Home Reading Evaluation & Grade Level Estimator

You can download a free at-home reading skills evaluation for your child.  No email or phone number required.

Free Reading On Rails™ Walk Through Demo

You can schedule an online demonstration of the program via zoom. This is a great time to ask questions as you see how the program works.

A Year Of Reading Insurance™

After any of those, you can sign your child up for Reading Insurance.  This is our quarterly reading skills check-up program.  We’ll remind you when it’s time to schedule the next check-up to make sure your child isn’t drifting behind.

2 to 4 Session Trial with a Satisfaction Guarantee

If you decide to continue Reading on Rails after the no-cost, 2-session professional reading evaluation, we ask that you pay for sessions 3 & 4 in advance, but both sessions come with a money-back guarantee.  If you are not satisfied and decide to stop before session five, we’ll refund your money.

When session two ends, we also send you an enrollment document.  When you complete the document, your child is automatically covered by the Bristol Standard Guarantee, which means you get 20 free tutoring sessions if your child is not reading well by the deadline.  Similar guarantees apply to adult learners and ESL students.  No one offers the same guarantees.

The Bristol Standard Guarantee

Only senior tutors are allowed to conduct our 2- 4 session student evaluations.  These are done online.  As the client, you get to watch–even from work.  In the subsequent client-tutor conference, the tutor gets parental input first. Then the tutor describes his or her observations and the overall situation.  You ask questions as  we explore which letter patterns your child will be practicing next.  After the first two sessions (both free), we ask that you pay for sessions three and four in advance.  If you decide to discontinue tutoring or evaluation before session five starts, your payment is refunded.

Under most tutoring plans, parents and adult learners are entitled to compensation in the form of 20 or 30 free 30-minute tutorial sessions if the student does not reach a late 3rd-grade reading level promptly.  Typical Georgia schools require about 1200 hours–yes 1200 hours–of reading instruction to get about half of their students reading on a third-grade level by the end of third grade.  As a parent, you are entitled to a block of free tutorial sessions after just 10% of that time.  Students on the “Standby” Plan are not eligible for this guarantee.  Other limitations apply.  Call us for details or read about it in the enrollment document we send after your free evaluation.

More data is needed, but the results from detailed records and a controlled study indicate Reading On Rails is 6 to 8 times faster and more effective than typical curriculum.  This makes it an ideal reading supplement.

Our ideal school district has third-grade reading proficiency scores around 35%, an after-school program for Reading On Rails evaluation and teacher training, a summer program for pilot expansion, and access to a good statistician: We don’t have to fake our numbers.
